Letter to Your University - Template You Can Use Today
Letter to Your University
DfE told providers to support affected students. Wonkhe's analysis notes that providers are not volunteering information about compensation or breach of contract. You need to ask.
Send this to your lead provider, not your campus. Use email. Keep a copy.

Subject: Request for Support , Weekend Course Reclassification , [Your Name] , [Student ID]
Dear Student Finance Team,
I am writing regarding the recent DfE decision to reclassify weekend courses as distance learning. I am a student on [course name] delivered by [campus/delivery partner] and validated by [lead provider].
I enrolled on this course based on the classification your institution submitted to SLC. I received maintenance loan payments that SLC confirmed and processed. The Secretary of State has stated this situation is not students' fault.
I am requesting the following information in writing:
-
What hardship funding is your institution making available to affected students, as instructed by DfE?
-
What is the process to apply for this support, and what is the timeline for decisions?
-
Given that the course was misclassified by your institution, what compensation or redress will you offer to affected students?
-
Will your institution cover any direct financial losses I have incurred as a result of the misclassification?
I expect a written response within 10 working days.
Yours faithfully, [Your Name] [Student ID] [Course Name] [Date]
After You Send It
Keep the email and any response. If your provider does not respond within 10 working days, send a follow-up referencing the original email. If they refuse support, that response is evidence for a complaint to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator.
